MUSHING INTO HISTORY

The historical village of Carcross was originally named Caribou Crossing and was subsequently shortened by the Canadian Postal Service. The area is also known as the Southern Lakes region of the Yukon. It is here that prospectors during the Gold Rush era would launch towards Dawson City by dog teams in the winter or by rafts and boats in the summer. Eventually a railroad connecting Skagway Alaska and Whitehorse was built, allowing Whitehorse to become the centre point of the Yukon. The railway, now out of use, makes a great modern day dog mushing trail for us to enjoy. The history of the Yukon is amazing, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
